Every year in October, the pumpkins arrive, thousands of them, to populate our famed patch. But for anyone who has experienced our Pumpkin Patch knows that it has become about far more than pumpkins. Above all, it has become about community.  It begins with the hundred or so folks who gather to unload a semi-truck full of pumpkins in the space of a few hours on a Saturday morning. You see everyone from the youngest to the oldest sharing in a joyful barn-raising of sorts as an empty lot becomes very quickly a pumpkin wonderland. Then, every day, the community comes out to take pictures, to buy pumpkins, or to join in the many special events from movie night to the fantastic Fall Festival. At the end of it, strangers have become friends, kids have discovered new playmates, and yes, thousands of dollars have been raised to support the ministries of our Learning Centers to the families of our community.

The Pumpkin Patch represents only one of the many ways in which people connect at First Church, where they discover this church is more than a place. It’s a family, where you can grow together, laugh and cry together, and together create something more for yourself, for your community and even for the world. So, look for the banners here on this site or the Learning Center site in early October, and come be part of this very special community event, the annual First Church Pumpkin Patch.
