Like men, women need places where they can gather with other women, to support each other, to challenge each other, and to simply grow together in their relationship with God and with each other.
And for over 200 years, Presbyterian women have been doing just that. In those early years, the women gathered not simply for support and growth, but also to find their voice in a church structure that often didn’t listen to them. These pioneering women stepped out of the home, and organized groups where women could talk and share together. And from there these groups of women gained respect and influence as they led the church into new areas of mission and ministry in the nation and the world.
The purpose of the Presbyterian Women has evolved to: Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves; To nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study; To support the mission of the church worldwide; To work for justice and peace, and; To build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and witnesses to the promise of God’s Kingdom.

Today, that powerful vision of women coming together for support and mission, lives on in the women’s ministries of this church. Each month, various groups of women at First Presbyterian come together for fellowship, monthly Bible study and sharing time called Circles. Each circle has its own personality. Some meet on the church campus. Some meet in homes. Some meet for drinks and food at a local restaurant. But at the heart of each Circle, lies a commitment to grow together in their relationship with Christ, their relationships with each other, and in making a positive impact for a world in need.
So, beyond these circles, the women of First Presbyterian come together to raise funds for such needs as a local support group for the poor and homeless or for economic development of women overseas or blankets for sick church members. And they don’t do this work alone. The network of Presbyterian Women encompasses over 300,000 women across the nation, who each year fund millions of dollars of projects to minister to women and families in the name of Jesus.
In addition, they come together for various other times to eat together and work together, including annual luncheons, Daughter teas, bake sales, holiday fair and other special events.
